State ceremony marking Holocaust Remembrance Day takes place at Yad Vashem | |
The official Holocaust remembrance day ceremonies began a short time ago at Yad Vashem in Jerusalem in the presence of President Shimon Peres and Prime Minister Benyamin Netanyahu together with other public officials and dignitaries.
Six survivors are lighting the memorial torches - one for each million Jews who perished. The events this year focus on the 70th anniversary of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising. And on Kibbutz Tel Itzhak the Massua Institute for Holocaust Studies will hold its ceremony which will also mark the 70th anniversary of the Warsaw Ghetto uprising and 50 other attempted Jewish uprisings in Europe. IDF Chief of Staff Benny Gantz is taking part in the March of Living from Auschwitz to Birkanau. He is leading a group of IDF officers, soldiers and reservists. |
