Talks between Israeli, Turkish teams on Marmara compensation delayed

Talks between Turkish and Israeli negotiating teams regarding compensation for the families of nine Turkish activists killed in the Israeli naval commando raid of the 2010 Marmara flotilla have been delayed by 10 days.
The meeting was to have taken place at the weekend. Turkey's Deputy Prime Minister Bulent Arinc said it was put off because of the Turkish prime minister's trip to Kirgistan.
The families of the activists and the organization IHH, which organized the flotilla to break Israel's maritime blockade of the Gaza Strip, announced last night that Israel's apology to Turkey over the raid does not go far enough. They threatened to pursue legal proceedings against Israel in court. ///////////////////
Kerry meets Peres

US Secretary of State John Kerry says the vision of two states can be realized. The visiting US secretary said that he had no illusions over the difficulties that can be expected along the way, but that there must be a belief in the possibility of reaching the target.
In a meeting with President Shimon Peres at the Presidential Residence in Jerusalem, Kerry said that the US will continue to seek a diplomatic solution to the Iranian nuclear crisis, but that Washington is aware that time is ticking away.
President Peres said that the Iranian threat is the greatest threat to peace, security and stability in the region. The Israeli president said that he had complete faith in Secretary Kerry and President Barack Obama, and has no doubt that when the US says that all options are on the table concerning the Iranian issue, it means it.
On a peace process with the Palestinians, Peres said that there is a new wind of peace in the Middle East, adding that there are disagreements that can be bridged and that a two-state solution is the best solution. |
